We were invited by Understory (understorysound.ca) to create three improvised pieces via remote collaboration. This was one of them! We met for the first time on Zoom after the recording was complete. The composition was done as a kind of collaborative form. Michelle recorded first and completed the bedtrack with a single vocal line and wrote the lyrics. Viviane was second in the process and added multiple vocal harmonies. Danielle followed after with vocal harmonies filtered through Ableton Live.
This piece is dedicated to the thousands of children lost through the residential school systems in Canada.
